What is Family?

Families For Freedom - A WA Community Initiative for Relationship Equality
<lj-embed id="4" />

In today's society, the word 'family' is used to marginalise, segregate and isolate people according to their particular types of relationship structures. Families For Freedom seeks to create a community based and online dialogue about what family actually means to todays community, towards the end of recognising all loving, supportive relationships equally.

F4F are holding two events in Perth in the coming weeks.

WA Community Forum on Relationship Recognition
The WA Community Forum invites representatives of all the significant political parties and community leaders in Western Australia to come and speak on Relationship Recognition. Lyn MacLaren from the Greens, and Jim Morrison fro Queers for Reconciliation have agreed to speak, and Labor, National and Liberal are currently still confirming their speakers.

When: Saturday 1st August, 2pm - 5pm
Where: University of Western Australia
REGISTER ONLINE: http://www.families4freedom.info/Families_For_Freedom/The_Forum.html

Community Picnic & Support Day for Equal Relationship Recognition
This event, being held 3 days after the anniversary of the ban on same-sex marriage, is an opportunity for all WA families and community members to come out and show their support for all loving relationships being recognised equally under Australian law. Participants are encouraged to wear bright colours or to bring a rainbow umbrella, and will be treated to some light community entertainment on Cottesloe Foreshore.

When: Sunday 16th August, 11am - 2pm
Where: Cottesloe Foreshore
MORE INFO: http://www.families4freedom.info/Families_For_Freedom/The_Event.html

Tell Your Story - Families For Freedom Fim Project
<lj-embed id="5" />

F4F Invites all community members in and out of Australia to contribute video blogs and short films about what family means to them, to extend the online dialogue and to explore an issue that never gets the attention it is due. Lets reclaim 'family' from fundamentalist groups, and give it back the meaning of love and support it used to entail.

MORE INFO: http://www.families4freedom.info/Families_For_Freedom/Tell_Your_Story.html

Faces For Freedom 4 Families For Freedom - A Freedom Centre Initiative

'Faces for Freedom' is a way of making a statement against homophobia, and for human rights in Australia!

It’s simply a series of photos of each of us holding a sign that makes a statement about anti-homophobia and our human rights.
Phase TWO of FFF is in support of Families 4 Freedom, the National Day of Action and relationship recognition regardless of gender!!

MORE iNFO: http://www.facesforfreedom.blogspot.com/

Shane Update 08...3? I suck...

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gyre and gimbel in the wabe...

Or something to that effect.

3 things:

1. My laptop dieded
Thinking of buying a MacBook and paying it off.
However, if anyone has spare laptops or stuff that can be played with, please let me know, and I will love you forever...

2. Big Gay Festival of Dionysus - THIS WEEKEND!
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=30870558915
Dorm Party Saturday from 8pm, themed Dionysus - Sex, Drugs & Rock'n'Roll
Togas encouraged
Usual rules apply: BYO Booze, BYO Costume, BYO Friends

3. Should I start posting again?
I'm not sure if I can be bothered. But should people be given the opportunity to know whats going on in my head again? Or should I just let them go on assuming its full of busy and awesome? Which it is, obviously, but... well, you know...

Hrm....

Review

Dorm Party 08-1 was good, managed to get a half decent turnout despite the fact I had none of my phone contacts available. So win methinks.

Plenty of spa-age, roofing, sex and drinking was of course had by all.

Kind of feel like we have all come back from awesome camping trip over new years break and all face-planted the internet. No-one has any money or any idea of what to do really, so they just sit around and have laptop parties. Fail people, fail.

Back to Guild Monday, so must spend weekend thoroughly avoiding guild, politics or anything related. Though have no money. Who's up for court tonight? We should show the americans how to dance and drink properly.

Let me know.

Ciao
Your El Presidente

Dorm Party 08-1

Party 2nite

We have friends over from far far away and one of them will be a future dorm member, the other's just funky.

Therefore, you should come and help us welcome in the impromptu party I've just decided to have tonight.

Date: Tonight
Theme: Wear a hat. Preferably an interesting one.
BYO: Drinks, friends and hat.
Time: 8pm +

Also, invite others cos I lost all my contacts in a tragic camping accident.

And we still have the spa.

Love you, come to my party! Yay love.

*head-desk*

Blarh. What a week.

Monday I didn't bother going to work, I was going to do assignments instead, but didn't.

Tuesday went down to Bunbury, got into long debate about the state of the world, and we all came to the conclusion it was all depressingly futile. Then a huge 3 car crash happened right in front of us. Much blood and huge amount of damage. Luckily we just missed them or it could have been us too.

Also was muchly depressing to look at the old Guild Building in Bunbury, which was given back to the Uni 5 years ago by the idiots who sent the Guild bankrupt... it was muchly depressing to see how far this Guild has fallen.

Got home and decided to check my voicemail... apparently some guy I met at ACUMA was trying to contact me about business stuff and was up at the JO Office, and cos I haven't bothered to check my voicemail all week there were some increasingly irritated missed calls.

Followed by one from Alice saying how well I did in the Fees Allocation Committee and how awesome a President I would be.

In summary, I feel like everyone expects me to be an awesome President, to save the Guild and make wonders happen. And while I do think I will do a good job, I am feeling a lot of pressure at the moment and I'm losing confidence in myself, and recent things like not getting stuff done on time and not answering my voicemail make me feel like I'm already fucking up.

Also I have a 4 hour exam in 30 minutes, whcih I didn't study for, and other assignments to finish before I take over in a week and a half.

Sigh..

On the bright side, while I was being all depressive yesterday, fuckbuddy msgd me; and thus I had night of really good sex. So thats good.

*blah is dead*

My Weekend

Scowl, and stuff.

Had NUS State Conference this weekend. Couple of ranty points, mostly about Alice.

1. It was held at Murdoch even though only 2 Murdoch delegates could attend, because Alice wanted to follow the guys she's in love with around like a disturbing and annoying puppy, and because nobody elses life or ability to get there matters.

2. When he wasn't there, she was shitty, cantankerous and petty.

3. In her annual report (which she delivered verbally because she couldn't be bothered wrtiting it) she basically said thanks ppl for being there even though the year was shit, and that it wasn't her fault, and thankyou to Shane for teaching me I could detest someone as musch as I do you. Oh, and failed to mmention anything about the Guild itself.

4. She gave a gift of warm raw meat and red cordial to Murdoch Guild Rep because she wanted to take a stab at them for running using BBQ's etc in their election campaign against her crush (and winning). It was petty, it was diwsgusting, and the person she intended to give it to is a vegitarian. Way to represent our Guild, you petty childish cruel specimen of humanity.

Noetheless it went well and Eden got elected as next year's NUS West State Pres (yay!). There were no Curtin Delegates and few UWA etc delegates, so turnout was v. disappointing and Quorum hard to achieve, wasting a lot of everyone's time. Scowl.

On a brighter note...
The rest of the weekend was genuinely good. Went to an intimate but awesome party on Sat night.

Sunday we headed up to Lesmurdie to test out how many people will fit in a 3 person portable spa... quite a few it would seem ;) Made for a good day, and as usual the punch, brewed the night before; was lethal.

Just got home now. You know the weekend is over when your phone dies ;)

Sigh. Back to work I suppose...

Grra, Argh...

Long day, feel depressed...

*scowl*

This Guild would be in such a better position for next year if it wasn't for Alice. Fucking Alice. Gah.

Had negotiations with the Uni today, the gist of which was "your Guild doesn't deserve this money", but the really depressing part was the point where the Director of Student Services came in to tell me they were claiming the Common Room spaces, which I was trying to claim back from the University.

Am depressed cos chances of getting spac back for the Guild are slim...

I need a hug. And beer. In a day or 2 I will be fine to tackle this, and be all Zest! Vigour! I will DO this! It WILL be glorious!

But right now, its just too hard.

*head-desk*

Horoscope for Cancer:

This week is going to be especially hectic. So, don’t take any kind of crap from anybody. Mow over anyone who can’t seem to keep up, anyone who slows you down. Use your stapler as a weapon. Open it up and aim it at lazy co-workers, then click staples at them. For special people press it against the back of their necks and impale them with the sharp metal stationary tools. Bend paper clips into two pronged forks, then use rubber bands to catapult them across cubicles and into people’s lines of vision. This is very important. It’s in the stars for you to do this.

lolz

Presidential Update

Day 12-ish

Elections are open, and my purdy campaign material is all over Joondalup. Will be hitting Mt Lawley tomorrow.

My head is buzzing with ideas around what I want to do with the Guild, and also with anticipation of the battle I'm going to have with the Uni. Am considering making a bet with the Vice Chancellor - I make the Guild sustainable in a year, you double our funding.

Am also considering taking the bastard out (murder wise). Apparently I'm invited to his Xmas party in early December. Just imagine.. Tee hee. Drunken abuse. I'd have to sleep with a watier or sumthin.

Stubble update: Fluffy
Drinks: 3 swigs from the Tequila in my desk drawer
Energy Drinks: 6

Still not President.
